An article by Hilary White yesterday on Lifesite looks at an interview given by Cherie Blair on Good Morning television in which the wife of the former Prime Minister was questioned by viewers about her recently published book. (See: No Comment from Bishops as Cherie, wife of Former PM Blair, Touts Catholicism While Extolling Contraception)Cherie Blair confirmed her rejection of the teaching of the Catholic Church on the wrongfulness of any use of artificial contraception:
"People seem to be quite shocked that perhaps a Catholic girl even uses contraception but it is really an important thing for women because one of the things about the book is about how women's lives have changed,"Thomas Peters has also commented on this story on his blog American Papist (see: American Papist)
Meanwhile in other news about Britain, Bishop Elio Sgreccia has, quite rightly, commented on the "horror" approved by our Parliament, namely the creation of hybrid embryos. The Zenit article Bishop: British Parliament Approves "Horror" gives due space also to the opposition of non-Catholic Christians and Muslims to the HFE bill.
The connection between these two stories is that once you artificially and deliberately break the link between the marriage act and procreation, the way is open for the manipulation of human life without any objective moral considerations. In Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI foresaw only some of the consequences of artificial methods of birth control. Had you said in 1968 that 40 years on, we would be creating embryos for research and allowing human-animal hybrid embryos, you would have been dismissed as a hysterical scaremonger.
Someone also needs to explain to Cherie Blair that those who counsel women in crisis pregnancies know only too well that the idea that contraception gives women "control over their fertility" is proved wrong by the large proportion of women presenting for abortion who are using one or more forms of contraception.

Since Mrs Blair has openly dissented on Church teachings and is pro-abortion - presumably her parish priest has a duty to inform them (as they clearly contracept) -that they should not present themselves for Holy Communion. Is this not correct? If not - I would be inclined to write to their bishop and PP and ask what the position is - but as they have so many houses would I need to write to several PPs and bishops????
Dominie
ps - I am serious about this - I think Mrs Blair and Mr are creating scandal for the faithful and we can't silently look away.
Somewhere I have a prolife video and in it was a woman who'd been actively involved in Planned PArenthood, etc. and eventually she'd "had it" with abortion, etc. Because, as is often hidden, the planned parenthood people are the biggest abortion providers in the US. She said that over time the effectivity of "the pill" etc. *lessens* as far as what dosage strength works. So they *KNOW* that eventually the BC will fail and they have a built in customer for an abortion. A disgusting "vertical market" if I ever heard of one. Does the average woman know this? no.
If I come across it the exact title of the video, I'll post it.
She is a traitor pure and simple, and she is a fool, the world will never love her as she wants it to.
A variant on the old Tony Blair joke:
Q. How do you know when Cherie Blair is saying something contrary to the teaching of the Church?
A. Her lips move.
A solemn Te Deum should be sung to celebrate the fact she never got onto the Pontifical Council for the Family.
...'the idea that contraception gives women "control over their fertility" is proved wrong by the large proportion of women presenting for abortion who are using one or more forms of contraception'....
But that's the whole point, isn't it Fr Tim. It should come as no surprise to people that the very same providers of contraception are also behind the abortion machine. It's a 'double whammy' and they're laughing all the way to the bank! And those same women with all their fertility control and freedom of choice are left damaged and devastated by what they have done. They are then left alone to pick up the pieces - because sure as hell Marie Stopes, FPA, IPPF, NHS etc... don't want to know you once they've murdered your baby and taken the 30 pieces of silver.
As Chesterton said:
"Birth Control" in fact means no birth,
and no control.
or words to that effect.
Extract from my thoughts on this on my blog.
I would identify another villain of the piece, murmuring.
'Murmuratio' is a word which is difficult to translate directly into a modern English word; Columba Stewart notes
Endemic to organisations and communities of every kind, this resistant and whiny attitude creates black holes of negativity...it has destroyed individuals and communities...he proclaims an absolute ban on murmuring (RB34.6 40.9)
For Benedict, murmering was about being obedient but complaining about it. Much of the above is about dissent but, as in the Cherie Blair example, claims of being an obedient Catholic are made except for..., or murmering on one issue is mixed with dissent on another, a heady cocktail.
Says the "young Blair mistake""
Mummy didn't want me but they forgot to pack the rubbers!"
Nice, Cherie. Real nice.
'you would have been dismissed as a hysterical scaremonger' - now we're dismissed as Fundamentalist Catholics!.
