In the face of a whole generation of silence and dissent to this most critical of all papal encyclicals, HLI is endeavoring to form a new generation of assent, both from the ranks of the existing clergy and among those who are studying for Holy Orders. You can read more about the pledge at the HLI homepage and you can download a copy of the pledge (pdf 105kb) which bishops, priests, deacons and seminarians are all invited to sign.
(I wonder if it would be possible for HLI to arrange for this to be signed by email or on the web?)

In a way it's sad that this pledge need be taken at all... i.e. it should be safely "assumed" that this would automatically be the case that a priest/seminarian would assent to it.
I have to say that I fear somewhat for those seminarians studying in difficult circumstances. I'll be blunt and say there are far too many seminaries now days where on staff there are elements which seek to stomp on the orthodox. I will say that in my own country from reports I have read that often in the recent past (and I would not be surprised to find still) on going attempts to paint the orthodox seminarian as "weird" or "neanderthal" or not "gay friendly" or "mysogenistic" simply because he doesn't buy into liberal trendy ideology. There have been cases where outside staff evaluate who's fit to be a priest, and there have been cases where these so called psychologists work to undermine the faith. I can therefore see why a seminarian, until he has been ordained may NOT wish to be cut off at the knees by people working contrary to the faith.
But in another way this petition is a good thing, because it would signal to the man/woman in the pew that the priest in question assents to the fullness of the faith, and God willing, will preach it and encourage it.
Following the thread of many of your posts, I hope you will graciously allow this request. I am quite horrified at the pornographic adn sexually explicit content of what is published in and deliberately targeted at young girls. I teach at a "catholic" girls grammar school in London, and the confiscation of the week had "how to make bad sex good" on the front cover. I confiscated this from a 12 year old pupil. Is there any forum for lobbying for the banning of such revolting and insidious publications, or anything which I can actively do in this area. I would be most grateful for ideas.
God Bless you for your work.
Good luck trying to get the Canadian Conference of Bishops to sign this, especially after their "Winnipeg Statement".
My money is on pigs flying, rather the above happening.
GOTO - thank God there are many seminaries now where students could sign this petition without any need to worry. It is disgraceful if there are any left where a student might need to fear signing such an excellent declaration of faith and loyalty.

God Bless.
Be interested to know if many sign, Fr Tim. My impression is that most couldn`t give a ****.
I think a petition(anonymous of course) asking how many really couldn't give a **** is vital.
Then those of who do give a **** can know what we`re dealing with, and get to work. (Actually, some of us already have.)
