Bishop Hendricks

The other day, St Mary Magdalen's, Wandsworth East Hill, celebrated its centenary. Fr Martin Edwards is the parish priest and he celebrated Mass with Bishop Paul Hendricks, Auxiliary in Southwark, in attendance. The picture shows him in jewelled mitre and glorious cope. (Acknowledgements to Southwark Vocations.) Bishop Hendricks read physics at Corpus Christi, Oxford - I was at the same college a little after - and we ended up in the same year at Rome. I concelebrated at his ordination to the priesthood at Orpington on 29 July 1984, the day after my own ordination. That smile in the photo is very characteristic.
